Ian McCarthy Collection

Accessing collections Special collections Ian McCarthy Collection

Ian Ellery McCarthy was born in Adelaide in 1930, and died in 2005. He graduated from Adelaide University with a PhD in Mathematical Physics in 1956, and did postdoctoral work at Cambridge University, University of Minnesota and UCLA. He taught physics at the Universities of Adelaide, California and Oregon, and in 1968 was appointed Professor of Physics at Flinders University, a post he held until his retirement. During his career he held visiting appointments at many universities around the world.

The Ian McCarthy Collection contains 5 archive boxes and 3 box files of documents, talks and seminars, course notes, photographs, slides and correspondence. They range between the years 1978 and 1999.

The materials are on physics topics, details of physics courses taught at Flinders University, the history of Physics at Flinders, plus photographs and slides used in talks.

General Special Collections conditions of access apply.
