Free and discounted open access publishing

Flinders University Library (as a member of Council of Australian University Librarians) has entered into several agreements with publishers (through both Read & Publish schemes and institutional memberships) to deliver Flinders researchers with discounted or entirely waived Article Processing Charges (APCs) when publishing open access in selected journals.

Available offers

The following offers are available to corresponding authors (including HDRs) publishing research articles affiliated with Flinders University. Each publisher may impose further eligibility criteria or limitations and additional charges (such as page and colour charges).
 

AIP - American Institute of Physics (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing research or review articles in included AIP journals.

Other information: Cap applies, articles will have the fee waived until the national article limit is exhausted. Check cap progress to see if there are free APCs remaining (once limit is expended, standard charges apply).

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. After article acceptance, log into scitation.org and follow the AIP guidelines.

Cambridge University Press (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing an applicable article type in any of the included CUP journals.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. Select ‘Gold Open Access’ when filling out the publishing agreement and follow the publishing guide, the fee waiver will be automatically applied.

Company of Biologists (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing an original research paper in any of the five included journals.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. In the publishing agreement, select open access and select Flinders University as the participating institution.

CSIRO (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing in any of the included CSIRO journals.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. Fee waiver should automatically apply through the submission in ScholarOne.

Elsevier (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing eligible article types in included Elsevier journals. Some further journals may also be eligible for a 15% discount.

Other information: Cap applies, articles will have the fee waived until the national article limit is exhausted. Check cap progress to see if there are free APCs remaining (once limit is expended, standard charges apply).

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email.

IOP Science (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing original research or review articles in included IOP journals.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. Follow the publisher’s guide to submitting via ScholarOne.

MDPI (10% off)

Offer: 10% off when publishing any book or journal article through MDPI (Flinders University is a member of the Institutional Open Access Program).

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email.

Microbiology Society (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing in an included journal published by the Microbiology Society.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email.

Oxford University Press (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing an applicable article type in any of the included OUP journals.

Other information: Cap applies, articles will have the fee waived until the national article limit is exhausted. Check cap progress to see if there are free APCs remaining (once limit is expended, standard charges apply).

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. In the publishing agreement, select open access and select Flinders University as the participating institution. See further details on how to submit your article for a waived fee.

Portland Press / Biochemical Society (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing in one of the included Biochemical Society journals.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. Select Flinders University as your institution.

Royal Society of Chemistry (15% off)

Offer: 15% discount on the article processing charge when publishing in an RSC journal (excluding those badged as ‘Gold open access’). There is no article processing charge when publishing in a ‘Diamond open access’ journal.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email.

SAGE (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing in an included SAGE journal.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. Once article is accepted, SAGE will contact authors and invite them to the SAGE Open Access Portal.

Springer (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing an eligible article type in included Springer Nature journals.

Other information: Cap applies, articles will have the fee waived until the national article limit is exhausted. Check cap progress to see if there are free APCs remaining (once limit is expended, standard charges apply).

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. Select Flinders University as the participating institution.

SpringerOpen (15% off)

Offer: 15% discount on the article processing charge in fully open access journals by SpringerOpen. Does not apply to Nature Research, Palgrave, or Springer Nature hybrid (Open Choice) titles.

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email.

Taylor and Francis (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing in included T&F journals.

Other information: Cap applies, articles will have the fee waived until the national article limit is exhausted. Check cap progress to see if there are free APCs remaining (once limit is expended, standard charges apply).

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email.

Wiley and Hindawi (no fee)

Offer: No article processing charge when publishing an eligible article type in an included Wiley journal.

Other information: Cap applies, articles will have the fee waived until the national article limit is exhausted. Check cap progress to see if there are free APCs remaining (once limit is expended, standard charges apply).

Submission criteria: Corresponding author must be affiliated to Flinders University and use Flinders email. Select Flinders University as your participating institution and follow Wiley’s step-by-step guide.

How to redeem

  1. Ensure you have listed Flinders University as your affiliated institution on the paper.
  2. Nominate as corresponding author.
  3. Submit article through the usual process using your Flinders email address.
  4. If publisher applies a cap to number of free articles, check if cap has been reached yet (view national list of agreements and select publisher name, then view table of cap uptake).
  5. After article acceptance, select the choice to publish open access (if it is a journal that is not exclusively open access and/or the free article allowance is not already exhausted).
  6. Check any other eligibility requirements described in the list of Available offers. If the publisher prompts you to select a participating institution, select Flinders University.
