The founding Vice-Chancellor of Flinders University, Emeritus Professor Peter Karmel donated several collections of documents to the Library in 1983.
It was Peter Karmel who said, "We want to experiment and experiment bravely" at a public meeting about plans for the new university that would become Flinders.
The collection contains typescripts, manuscripts, correspondence, proofs and reprints. They are papers of the Committee of Economic Enquiry and the Committee on Tertiary Education, where he was Chairman of both; private papers; lecture notes; Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee papers.
The Karmel Collection totals 43 boxes and 7 books, plus The Committee of Economic Enquiry consists of 21 boxes.
