Accessing collections Special collections Robert Paddick Collection

Bob Paddick, who died on July 12th, 2001 at the age of 62, was appointed to Sturt College in 1969 and to Flinders University in 1972.

He was the co-founder of Physical Education at Flinders University, Dean of the School of Education 1980-1982 and was active in the Sports Association from its earliest years. Bob Paddick also established the South Australian Institute for Fitness, Research, and Training, and was a Fellow of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER). He was an active member of the Olympic movement, co-founding the Australian Olympic Academy.

Bob approached his work and life with a concern for the inquiring mind, a sense of fair play, and due deliberation in decision-making. He is remembered amongst his colleagues as someone who embodied the ideals of the liberal university.

The Robert Paddick Collection comprises 11 boxes at URRSA and 1.5 metres of shelving at Special Collections, which includes documents, books, periodicals, student assignments, audiovisual material and correspondence. They range between the years 1957 and 2000.

The Collection has information on the Institute for Fitness Research and Training, student assignments from Physical education topics, audio tapes with notes, plus materials on ACHPER, Olympic Games, and other sport and education related material.
