Requesting items from other libraries

The Document Delivery Service allows Flinders staff and students to place requests for materials not held by Flinders Library. Requests can be made for the loan of items like books or DVDs, or copies of a section of work, like a journal article or book chapter.

To place a request:

  1. Login to findit@flinders via Okta.
  2. Search for the item you need. If not found in the Flinders Library catalogue, select include items from other libraries at the top of the search results.
  3. Find the record you need and select Get it for me from other libraries to view your requesting options. Inside the item’s record, review your available offers and select Get it under your desired offer.
  4. If the item you need still cannot be found in this expanded library search, select the blank request form link at the top of the search results and fill in as much detail as possible.

All requests can be viewed, tracked, and copies downloaded from My Library Card in findit@flinders. Loans are collected from the holds shelf at your requested pickup location and will need to be checked out using the self-check machine or by visiting the Information Desk during staffed hours. If you are eligible for the SendIt Service, your loan will be automatically lent out to your account and posted to your address.

Requests submitted for items already held by Flinders Library or which do not comply with s49 of the Australian Copyright Act will be cancelled.

There is no cost to use the service and no request limit, however, items requested must be related to your work, research, or study at Flinders and must comply with copyright restrictions.

If you are not eligible for the full service and require a particular title, you can contact the Library and we will review your request.

Requesting items from our collection – information for other libraries

Flinders Library participates in the Trove Partners Resource Sharing (TPRS) network and accepts reciprocal and pay for peer requests from Australian libraries through this service.

Australian libraries that have not joined TPRS and overseas institutions are welcome to email their request to dds@flinders.edu.au for review. Please provide full bibliographic details and your library’s contact and shipping information when making your request. Australian libraries must also state that your request complies with s50 of the Australian Copyright Act.

Charges

For Australian libraries, we charge in accordance with the ILRS Code. All charges are in Australian dollars and include GST. Payment must be made via invoice, with credit card options available.

For overseas libraries, we will provide a quote before supplying your request. All charges are in Australian dollars. Payment must be made via invoice, with credit card options available.

Theses

Flinders Theses

Many Flinders theses are already digitised, and a digital version can be accessed on the Flinders Library catalogue, available to the public.

For theses that are only available in hard copy, please submit a thesis copy request.

Other Theses

Flinders staff and postgraduate students who require access to a thesis awarded by another institution can submit a Document Delivery request using the blank request form.
