The late Gus Fraenkel was the founding Dean of the School of Medicine at Flinders University in 1970, a post he held until his retirement in 1984. As Emeritus Professor he continued to have an office in the School of Medicine and to be involved in the life of the University until his death in 1998.
In 1991 he published a biography of Sir Hugh Cairns, the first Nuffield Professor of Surgery at Oxford University. Fraenkel was in the process of writing a history of the Flinders Medical Centre when he died.
This collection includes school work, correspondence, articles, lecture notes, conference papers, photographs, study leave reports, FMC history notes, research material for Cairns' biography, diaries, GJF qualifications, and miscellaneous papers.
