Professor Ian W. Reid was Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Curtin University of Technology 1991-2001, as well as Director of the Centre for Literacy, Culture and Language Pedagogy there 1993-1996. Previously he taught English literature at Deakin University, Adelaide University and Massey University New Zealand. He has published many books and articles, including three books of poetry, and has edited leading Australian literary magazines. He was a co-founder of Friendly Street Poets, Adelaide.
The Ian Reid Collection contains 3 boxes of manuscripts, and approximately 900 books and periodicals, including many Australian and New Zealand poetry and fiction works. There are a number of letters to Professor Reid from American, New Zealand and Australian fiction and poetry writers; manuscripts of poems and stories, press clippings, copies of articles and other related material.
The Collection was deposited and added to in 1978 and 2002, and materials within the Collection date from 1967 to 1997.
